An Art Director once said, "Your portfolio is strong, but your sketchbook is
your essence." The uninhibited and unchained nature of that which is in an
artist's sketchbook is truly the kernal of what sets them apart from all
other designers. Whether doodled out absent-mindedly while conversing on the
phone, or intentionally applied on travels abroad, my books are certainly my
most prized artifacts. They capture what I saw, and how I saw it. They give
the viewer a sense of the climate, aroma and local color of the lands I have
traversed. I have always carried a sketchbook simply as a matter of course,
but in recent months I have begun to comb back through ten years of journals
and utilize these visual logbooks as reference and stimulus in new works.
